Daily Immunity Breakfast Smoothie
If you have ever had kids, been a kid or sighted one in the wild, you will know that little humans are sweet but oh so grotty. Mine are particularly so: my very own personal epicenter of dirty nails and sleeves that shimmer in the sunlight from layer upon layer of boogers. Factor in daycare, school and everyone else’s sweet (but grotty) children and suffice to say if you have anything to do with kids you are exposed to lots and lots of snot, at a minimum.
So, how the diggity does a parent DO something about this? By nourishing the gut and building immunity of course.
As the weather warms in Australia, smoothie season is officially BACK so in the interest of keeping immunity up and gut health optimal, this mix is aimed more specifically to:
Work on allergies
Assist inflammatory issues like eczema
Avoid and clear digestive parasites
Prevent candida
IT IS:
Simple and tasty;
Loaded with nutrients like omega 3’s and protein for sustained energy;
Full of superfoods and medicinal powders that you may not get into a child otherwise and most importantly;
Kid approved.
I have 2 boys who I suspect could eat their own body weight on command, so this makes 2 large serves.
YOU’LL NEED:
3 cups of coconut milk *coconut has caprylic acid in it which kills off Candida so I like it here, although any milk is fine.
1 banana, peeled cut and frozen
1 tspn cinnamon
1 tablespoon of nut butter (choose your own adventure here, or avoid like the plague if allergic)
1 tablespoon diatomaceous earth *optional, BUT I recommend it! Tastes like nothing and sweeps the gut, removing any parasites as it goes.
1 tablespoon chia seeds *fibre, omega 3’s and prebiotic all in one
½ cup of frozen coconut flesh (available in most supermarkets)
2 medijool dates, pitted
2 serves of PONO probiotics
Bee Pollen to top it all off (if you have an allergic family)
TO MAKE:
Pop everything EXCEPT your probiotics and bee pollen in a blender and blitz, for at least 1min.
Here’s my tip as someone in the juice/smoothie industry: the key to an excellent smoothie is to use at least some frozen ingredients as they help to smash everything else up to the right consistency. That, and giving your blender ample time to do its work with get you a smooth boy as smooth (if not smoother than) Dwayne the Rock Johnson’s well-oiled noggin. Now THAT is smooth.
Upon reaching Smooth Town (population you + the Rock) it’s time to stir in your probiotics. We stir these sensitive souls in to make sure they don’t get damaged in the blitz.
Serve up and top with bee pollen (if you’re into it.) Donesies.
