MUMMA MUSE WITH RENEE AKA @RENEE.BARENDREGT
Tell us about @renee.barendregt; what drove you to start it?
I actually started a separate account to my personal account when I was pregnant and started posting pregnant related things as I didn’t want to annoy people on my other account. Then when Harry was born and all the difficulties he had at birth (born with gastroschisis birth defect) I stated a blog and wrote about our journey. It helped me through a really hard time, and it’s helped me connect with mothers all around the world and I love it!
How has motherhood changed you?
In the best way possible. I loved my life before becoming a mother, but I feel since becoming a mum I see the world in a completely different light. I can’t even put into words how much my boys have taught me.
What are the greatest lessons motherhood has taught you?
Perspective of life in general. Organisation. Gosh I had to learn that very quickly!!! And learning to see the world through a child’s eye so I can be compassionate and understanding.
What piece of advice would you like to share with other Mums about motherhood?
Don’t sweat on the small stuff. Time goes so quickly. Don’t go by what the book says, go by what your heart feels. Hold your babies close, always.
What is the most challenging aspect about motherhood for you?
Trying to juggle everything. I’m a shocker with house work. And now that I have two, Im finding it even harder to balance it all. Also trying to understand the mind of my two-year-old, trying to get into his head so I can help him with this scary world that he is learning about every day.
What drives you to maintain a healthy lifestyle for yourself and your family?
I have always strived to live a healthy life; it is huge for my mental health and always has been. Tom plays football so being active and healthy has always been apart of his life too. I always wanted to maintain a healthy life but now I’m even more motivated for my boys.
How do you find balance in your life? Can you share any tips?
Like I said earlier just not to take things too seriously. Go with the flow and don’t stress yourself life is seriously too short.
What 3 things could you not live without?
Wow this is so hard.
Family
Food
My phone
What is your favourite quote to live by?
I remember being asked this at year 12 retreat!!!! And I wrote “no regrets” and it does seem a bit lame but I still kind of like it. We all make mistakes, but I believe they are all for a reason. It has got us/taking us to exactly where we need to be!
Thank you Renee.
